Biography:

Every artist has a compelling story about how he or she got started. Of course, I think mine is especially interesting…

I started drawing four years ago. I went to an art store and bought some art pencils because I had to stay late after work and I thought I was going to be bored. I liked what I drew, so I tried colored pencils, pastels, and pen and ink.

I was a teacher for nine years. I taught grades 4 – 8 in literature, science, and social studies. I earned a master’s degree in Gifted Education and worked in the Gifted Department for Denver Public Schools.  I was happy teaching and working there at first, but something was dragged away from me, and through the nine years, I stopped enjoying it.

Art became a way to deal with how little pleasure eventually I got from teaching, since I had always wanted to be a teacher. I started painting in January of 2004 after I received an oil paint set for Christmas.  I was awake for four days painting. I had no idea I could do what I could do. Very often then and still I look at what I have drawn or painted and I am unable to believe that it was me who did it. It’s like I admire art from someone else. It’s very surreal.

I’ve never taken a painting class, and I took one drawing class, but I walked out of it when the teacher drew over my drawing.  I don’t know what I’m doing often, but strangely enough, I don’t want someone else telling me how to do it right.

I no longer teach. Instead, in order to make a living and get health insurance, I sell cars now. I paint, draw, and sell cars. (A car selling artist. Or an artistic car salesperson.)

I thank you for coming to see what I’ve done. I had no idea I was capable of this until I tried it. I’m still drawing and painting, and plan to continue. If you like what you see, keep in mind that I’m still teaching myself and I’m getting better. Drop back by in the future to see what I can do in 6 months or a year.
