Oak Hall School - Grades 6-12 Reviews

Middle and High School programs are excellent. Lower School is too restrictive and seems to take the fun out of learning, but the upper grade teachers really respect the students and can see their unique gifts. It has a reputation as a sports school, but the arts programs are fantastic, and there are a number of varied and creative electives in High School, such as Creative Writing, Panel Literature, Comparative Religion, etc. They offer Latin, which the very young and approachable teacher makes cool, not nerdy. It is very small (about 50 students per grade level) and allows students who are bright but less extroverted to not fall through the cracks. My only concern is the college counselling. Many kids go to UF due to Bright Futures Scholarships; few seem to look outside the area. Hard to say whether it's the school, the kids, the parents or all three.

My daughter started high school here a few months ago, and we both love it. The teachers are all fantastic, and the kids are friendly. We just moved to Gainesville from Miami, and the academics at this school rank with those in her previous school. I recommend Oak Hall to anyone- small class sizes, empathetic, well-accredited teachers, and a warm, but academically rigorous atmosphere that will prepare your child for college. Can you ask for more?

Great school, excourages exploration and non tradtional cirriculum.

An excellent scholastic environment including supportive, effective teachers, high teacher and student expectations for achievement, and a classic curriculum make this school very special.

Academic programs are improving in this very family oriented private, co-ed K-12 school. Middle school sports are limited, but high school sports are very active and range from the traditional, except football (planned for 2006-2007 year) to golf, swimming track and soccer. Music, art, plays are all there for the taking. My son was in 3 different 'clubs' which are school sponsored and organized extra curicular activities ranging from latin and math to chess. Parents are very involved on all levels, sometimes too much so.
