Millhopper Montessori School Reviews

We have been very pleased with this school. They allow children to grow and learn at their own pace. We are very happy with the after school programs. There are so many choices this year that the children can stay busy whatever our work schedule. A great school because the teachers really care about the students.

We were disappointed with the school. I took my 2yo out. The environment was cold and too strict for kids at such a young age. I found the teachers to be stern and unfriendly, really didn't know how to interact w/ young children.

Most private schools in Gainesville are a waste of money. The teachers are underpaid and undereducated, they are no good. The admin puts the teachers first, so the admin is no good. The kids and parents end up losing and te whole community. Go to public.

Millhopper offers one of the worst examples of private schooling as per our experience with our 2 kids. Their main concern is tuition and teachers... their last, is unfortunately the students and their parents. They are not cooperative with the smallest of issues.

Our daughter has attended MMS for three years. As a kindergardener, she can add, subtract, multiply and is learning to divide. She reads at a 3rd grade level and can converse on any number of topics. The faculty and staff is outstanding. From the reviews you can see that the people who have a problem with this school are parents who have kids who can't or don't perform. The school has taught us that children are little sponges and the more you expose them to the more they learn. If you're not willing to invest the time in your child's education, this isn't the school for you. But if you are dedicated to being involved in your child's development, I can't think of a better school. Parent involvment is superb and that's one of the reasons that my wife and I like it so much.

My 4 year old son goes to this school and I have mixed feeling about it. On the good side, they have wonderful educational materials that enhance learning at a young age, the teachers have excellent training, the classes are well prepared, the children learn to behave and be respectful, and they get more opportunities to socialize than in a classical school environment. On the down side, I feel MMS is a very cold place, too rigid and serious to make learning fun for kids. Most children get used to this and learn regardless of the pressure, but they could achieve twice as much by making learning an enjoyable and relaxed experience.

My child attended MMS from age 3 to 7 and really blossomed. She loved being able to learn at her pace and never had to wait for the rest of the class to catch up - or struggle to catch up to the rest of the class for that matter! The teachers were fabulous! Expensive, as private schools are, but worth every penny. Wish I could still afford it.

The school has more 5 stars than any other school that I have seen. I am very comfortable with the way they teach and discipline my children. I feel fortunate to have found such a wonderful learning environment for my children.

Our family struggled with the stiffness of the teachers and admin for our two boys. Academically it's ok, but socially it places enormous pressure on the kids and the parents

This school is wonderful for early childhood. It teaches independence and self reliability. It begins to fail the students at the Kindergarten level. At this level, there is little tolerance for kid behavior and all are expected to act like little adults at all times. Unfair labeling and attention has occurred in both Kindergarten classes; we believe the teachers have little regard for children who are not at the top of their game . Discipline is good, but not when perspective is lost regarding the gentle souls of children. It has been our experience that judgements are harsh and quick. The selection process to move into first grade is a grueling one; made much too early (November) to be fair to students who are slower to blossom. This is not a school with an open arms policy. They are not willing to accommodate or work with children who have issues.

I am a single parent and feel fortunate to have my children at Millhopper Montessori. They have a great programs before and after school so that my children are safe and happy. I like this school a lot.

Firm but loving discipline is used at this school, just like at home. Children need boundaries set. The education is excellent too. Love the school!

We picked this school eight years ago and have never regretted it. Both of our children have been treated with respect and they in turn have learned to be respectful. These qualities are important at home and at school. Our children love going to school and they love learning from their great teachers.

I think this has been a marvelous environment for my child. My child has learned to schedule her time and doesn't need me to tell her what is due and when. The school teaches responsibility. Great school.

We particularly chose Millhopper Montessori because of their small student to teacher ratio, excellent curriculum and discipline policy (the one area we had problems with the public schools). Both of our children love the school and their teachers. We are very satisfied (and actually feel that the school's attention to academics has exceeded our expectations) and feel that our children are learning in a safe and loving environment. We would highly recommend Millhopper Montessori to our friends and are happy to say that our two children will be entering high school at an advanced (AP) level!

Our experience is that this school does not follow the 'real' montessori system. It's a joke, there's no 'one-on-one' attention to students and they ridiculously strict during play time. That's not montessori. We took out our 4 year old and put him at Oak Hall where he's very happy now.

Each class has less than 13 students for each of the most excellently qualified adults in the world. They are caring and whats more, teach the child to care also.

This is a great school. I went to military and public schools...and I feel like I missed a great education experience. I am very pleased with the education that my children are getting at Millhopper Montessori. I thank Ms. Tina and her staff for such a wonderful experience.

Millhopper Montessori exceeds my highest expectations. The children work at their own pace while being gently guided by caring teachers. Two thumbs up!!

I really didn't like this school, I had my son in a montessori school in California before moving here, and I didn't find commitment towards the students here. Unless a student is 'extremely' quiete the teachers complain. I wouldn't recommend it and it was a terrible experience for us.

This school is an excellent facility in all areas. Students are always given the necessary attention to succeed, improve, and grow. They are encouraged to strive, meet challenges, and evolve into a well rounded student.

Great experience with lower level teachers, patient and caring. Most of the other staff appear professional and try to simulate a positive learning environment.

Suberb. Stress independance and exploration. Outstanding!

My daughter started at MMS when she was two and is now in the 4th grade. I have been very satisfied at how the teachers are trained to look at each child as an individual allowing each child to soar academically in their strong areas and get help in their weak areas. Not only are the academics extradinarilly incredible, the teachers also help the children become independent, teach social skills, and are able to instill a great love of learning.

Our son is in the second year of early childhood education at MMS. We are very pleased with the order of the classroom, the dimension of subjects covered, and range of learning styles encouraged. During parent-teacher conferences, we are amazed at how well the teachers know our child and the detail relayed about his aptitude and progress.

This school is much different from the more 'traditional' cirriculum which teaches just reading, writing and arithmetic. All of those subjects are covered, but in non-conventional ways. Our child is becoming more independent, and enjoys going to school. There are after-school programs, i.e., dance and cooking, which are currently the only ones available at our child's age level. We like to see more sports and a wider variety of after school classes. It is a school, and many other local after-school programs are available at other facilities. Parental involvement is very high. Our first open house had a large turnout, in which many parents attended and shared their views and voiced their questions. The school goes through 8th grade which allows the kids to stay together for a long time. Overall our child seems very happy.
