Eastside High School Reviews

As a mother of an IB graduate I found this school to provide my daughter with an excellent education preparing her for college. The teachers are caring and provide a family environment for the kids. I give it a big two thumbs up

I'm currently at EHS. When I was choosing high schools, I had a really tough time. I was comparing Eastside and GHS. I liked the atomosphere and athletics at GHS, but I felt like Eastside was the better choice education wise. The IB is an amazing program that really can help prepare you for anything. The staff is better than any school in Gainesville in my opinion, although grant it that I haven't attended BHS or GHS. It is also a very diverse program. I have many friends that are a different race than me, as well as in programs other than IB, including major program. There are certain aspects I don't like about Eastside, but I think that any school will have its ups and downs. As far as drugs and gang violence, that problem occurs at many schools, and I don't think it in any way reflects the school.

As a parent of a former student, yes this school has excellent programs and teachers (ie. IB, drama, band, cullinary) for students interested and motivated. The school also has a significant drug and gang problem that perhaps mitigates any good from the programs.

I was also once a student who had a hard time deciding between the Eastside IB program and the strength of the Buchholz math team. In the end, I chose Eastside because I believe the IB program enables students to become well-rounded individuals and prepares students better for college life and the real world. The philosophies of the IB program teaches the students to think independently and creatively. Though Buchholz is strong in Mu Alpha Theta, that is still only one type of math competition out of many and only one subject area in school. In all, Eastside is the better school with wonderful teachers that will positively impact the students for life (and pass the AP tests too).

I was a student who had a hard time deciding between the IB program at Eastside and the AP courses at Buchholz. I visited both. I ended up choosing Buchholz and have never looked back. I was on the math team, which just placed first in the nation, and the school was just given the award for best AP program in math, science, and technology by the college board. From what I've seen and heard, Buchholz is superior in every subject area except Social Studies. Don't let false statistics fool you, Buchholz is a better school.

Yes, IB is a lot of work, but it prepares students to really be able to handle a college course load. The school environment is what the student makes of it- there a plenty of activities that any student should be able to find one or two to suit them. IB faculty awesome as well.

The IB program is intense but very much worth all the extra work for a motivated child. If followed completely the child will get an excellent foundation for college as well as a headstart on college credits earned but also will likely be eligible for a florida scholarship.

Very good school for the college bound student. Tremendous diversity of student body. Everyone seems to be able to find a niche. IB students need to be especially motivated. Not for the faint of heart-be prepared to work. Social Studies and French are especially strong.

I am so pleased to have a child in this school. The IB program is top-notch!

I have daughter that goes there, and she loves it. It is within walking distance of my house. I have never seen her so excited about going to school. She never wants to miss a day of school. She loves Eastside High School. She went to GHS last year, and she said Eastside is a whole lot better then GHS. The kids at Eastside shows a whole of respect for each other and for the teachers. Thank You for giving my daughter this experience she will never forget. If I can help it, she will be graduating form Eastside in 2yrs.

I think this is a good school to attend because the teachers are helpful and the prinicpal interacts with the students and they have a good cullinary arts program and a great band program which I am apart of.

Eastside High School is definitely a school that you and your child need to seriously talk about before considering it. Many who enter have had drug problems even if that student seems to not be the type. The IB program is excellent but ask yourself if your child's mental and physical health is worth toying with in the process.
