C. W. Norton Elementary School Reviews

One of my sons who went here received excellent reading support through ESE (Mrs. Mikell is Awesome)! The school is pretty good; however, I never got a real welcoming feeling there, and parents are very cliquish. Also, with around 800 students, it is way too large for an Elem.school. My girls attend Glen Springs , and it is almost smaller by half; much better for younger kids. Overall, Norton is above average IMO.

I couldn't be more impressed. We just moved back home from another country. Reading wasn't emphasized where we were the last two years. I struggled to teach my own kids to read in English (our native tongue) and stay on it since I was working 2 full time jobs overseas. Now at Norton, my kids will receive attention in this area. We did pretty well but I have confidence Norton is going to take us to a higher level on my kids' reading skills. Seems reading is extremely important at this school due to the NCLB laws. I am grateful. The reading specialists could motivate ANY child with their smiles and professionalism. The library looks excellent and larger than what we had access to in the other country where we lived.

The third grade team at Norton is beyond compare. The teachers work very closely with one another which makes everything so much easier as a parent. My child has thrived more this year than ever before. You can't go wrong with any of the third grade teachers! They set the bar high!

We're military, and are only here for a short time. My child has learned a great bit at Norton, and we are pleased with the school. We were, however, just left with that empty feeling when describing Norton. My child has gym, art, music and library/computer lab. But my child would come home talking continually of how some kids in the class were just so disruptive. I later learned from another parent that choosing the right teacher is imperative. We like Norton, and have no plans to change for the short time we have left.

I disagree w/Dec'04 reviewer; one of my sons has had reading problems and has been followed VERY closely and given LOTS of supplemental help; Mrs. Mikell for reading once/day, accomodation for tests, and speech twice/week for a couple years now. They are always sending progress reports home. My other two sons do not have these special needs, but seem to learn a lot and Like Norton. I have been treated fairly by the teachers and counselors, and when problem(s) have arose occasionally, I have been able to be heard by administration and to have my concern dealt with /not ignored. I am above-average happy with Norton and if I had one wish it would be that Norton would be a smaller school.

The quality of academic programs are great.

Great school! I did my student teaching at Norton and loved it. The teachers are dedicated, creative and love to teach. Administration is wonderful to work with. Norton is like a giant family.

Norton was a wonderful experience for my entire family. Since we have moved out of state we havent found a school to take their place. School has wonderful communication skills. They handled problem solving very well

Norton is a wonderful school. The teachers are very organized and work together to make sure all students are working on the same things. Their are a lot of opportunities for parents to be involved. We loved our short time at Norton.

Norton is top a top notch school. The students, staff and parents always have the best interest in mind. My kindergarten student has learned so much this year. He love to go to school everyday. He has learned to read, write short stories and knows more about science and social studies than I expected. The school gives off a warn and welcoming feeling that parents feel comfortable about sending thier children to school everyday as well as parents are welcome to come to school to various events and programs.

My niece was attending Norton and they found it to be a nice school but, she has some learning problems and was not given the attention and special needs classes she required. She now attends a private school and is doing great!

At CW Norton its lets see what we can learn today. My now 2nd grader had a difficult time adapting to school in Kindergarten. With the Stanford test that the kids take, it was discovered he needed extra help with reading. He was given extra help with reading basics twice a week by one of the specialist at school. On the the statewide test given to 1st graders he scored above average on his reading. I think that speaks a lot of how at Norton every child does matter. I would recommend C W Norton to any parent with Elementary aged kids.
