Gainesville Florida Marriott Hotel
The Gainesville motel on Southwest 13th Street, better known for its iconic sign-shaped building and luxury, will be demolished in the coming months to make way for a five-story hotel. The adjacent parking lot stretches south of the property line from Econo Lodge to Southwest 25th Place. The Ocala-based Hotel Development and Management Group and its partners hope to build a hotel that meets both the needs of the city and the needs of its residents. Along with the construction of a new high-rise on the west side of downtown, the hotel is expected to benefit from more than $1.5 million in federal and state tax breaks, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
